HOW TO PREPARE YOUR FILES FOR TRANSFER!

The following information applies to both Macintosh and PC format files. Mississippi Printing uses a PDF workflow, which means that the best way to insure that your job prints as it was created is to simply supply us with a “PlateReady” PDF File. Please refer to the Distiller Application below for proper Adobe Distiller Configuration for files sent to  Mississippi Printing Co.

The General Guidelines below are for 4-color (cmyk) output only. If your job requires spot color inks or spot varnishes, please contact our prepress department for detailed instructions.

General Guidelines:

1. If your artwork goes all the way to the edge of the page, you need to make sure you include 1/8 inch "bleed" in your artwork on all 4 sides.

2.  It is very important that your files are converted from RGB to CMYK prior to submission.

3.  We recommend that you use only "Type 1" (PostScript) fonts. If you are sending us application (non-PDF) files, make sure you include BOTH screen and printer fonts, including fonts that are used in linked graphics! Most TrueType fonts will print OK, but you should avoid Multiple Master fonts at all costs. For extra security, you can convert fonts to paths in Illustrator or FreeHand, but this will eliminate our ability to make any late changes.

4.  Screened text can be difficult to read, especially if it is a light color or reverses out of a light color. If you are designing with colorized type, especially small type, avoid using light screens. Instead try to make screened values at least 60%, and try to make at least one of the inks (preferably cyan or magenta) 100%.

5.  Set up large areas of black coverage with the following values: 50 cyan, 30 magenta, 30 yellow, 100 black. Small black text (under 18 pt) and rules (under 6 point) should be left 100% black only.

6. If your design requires perforations or folds, please indicate them in the bleed area of your artwork with a small tick mark.

7. Please refer to the individual application sections to the left for more specific instructions related to the various software titles.
